The replacement laying hen chicks are not only to replace any we may have lost over the last year, but also can be new breeds that we want to add to our laying flock.
This year we got Cream Brabanter, White Rock, Standard Brahma, and more Barnevelder and Speckled Sussex.
We got the additional Barnevelder's because we are so pleased with the large, dark chocolate colored eggs of our one Barnevelder from last year we wanted to add more dark chocolate eggs to our egg basket.
And the additional Speckled Sussex are to not only replace one of the hens we lost last year, but also because we really love their personality and friendliness. They are the most people-orientated of all the breeds we have and we just really enjoy them.
Guinea's are known for their bug eating abilities and to be a great aid in tick control, grasshopper control and other creepy crawlies that are less than desirable.
We love variety - so we ordered 2 each of the Pearl, Pied and White Guineas. They are absolutely adorable little birds, though not as calm as our chicks and not as friendly as the poults.
