As much as I love the change of seasons and am always happy to welcome spring - I admit that mud is not one of my favorite things about it!
Winter seems to have just started and now it is nearing the end. The snow is melting rapidly and leaving something not-as-fun in its place - - - mud! Slippery, soupy, bogging-down brown mud that likes to take off your boots and give you a joy-ride of trying to keep your footing on the way to do chores. As much as I love the change of seasons and am always happy to welcome spring - I admit that mud is not one of my favorite things about it! Before long the snow is a memory and with the sun shining bright, on a calm spring day, a child can't resist donning short sleeves and shorts - even if she is still wearing her snow boots! One of the best things about spring, however, is the longer daylight hours has the chickens picking up on production! How I love the variety of eggs we get from our mixed flock! Now that the weather is warmer, we are making plans to bring our little Jersey heifer and her goat friend, Applejack, home. Grandpa has been "critter sittin" for us because a Jersey is not as hardy as our beef calves and needs better shelter during inclement weather. We are going to be thrilled to have them both here with us finally - though I think they are going to miss being spoiled by Grandpa!
